Oceans of Plastic

This lesson teaches students about our earth’s oceans, gyres and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. By making art, the students get to synthesize their understanding of the condition of our oceans and wrap their minds around the severity of the problem. The Kiickstart Oceans of Plastic lesson is part of the Art is Elemental Water Unit. This 13 page booklet features thorough instructions, objectives, a materials list, process and timing, artists to investigate, a painting worksheet and a gallery of over 35 student paintings. It is suitable for students in 8th grade and up! The works featured in this resource were created by Karen’s 8th Grade students.
