Summers Off

off ?

I think it’s still a widely held misconception that teachers spend their summers completely detached from their jobs.  As if we simply hand in our brains along with all of the other items we are required to relinquish and pack up at the end of each school year.  People who know teachers (really know them), know that they love summers not because they can disconnect from their jobs, but so that they can REconnect with it.  Summers off….are really summers ON!  I get some of my best ideas in 2 months out of the year because I have the time, space and distance to reflect on the work that I did with my students during the other 10 months.  It’s a perfect balance of ebb and flow.  The ebb allows for, (and then becomes) the flow.
